Controller Pilot DataLink Communications – Aeronautical
Telecommunication Network (CPDLC-ATN B1)
Once EASy II Baseline is implemented, the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) capability is one of many EASy II options to enhance your operational capabilities.
The EASy II ATN-B1 application supports Protected Mode CPDLC (Controller Pilot DataLink Communications) services becoming available over Europe. This CPDLC application allows the crew to communicate with Air Traffic Control centers through formatted data link messages, as a complement (and future substitute) to standard VHF voice communications.
The ATN-B1 capability is becoming mandated for Falcons operating above FL285 in the airspace under EU regulation (refer to FSA 23-00-05 for details on the European Commission Mandate).
ATN-B1 services are currently only available over the Maastricht and Karlsruhe airspaces. In accordance with the European Commission mandate on Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), similar services are anticipated to become available in the other portions of the European Airspaces over the next 3 years.
As requirements are not harmonized yet among all European service providers, operating procedures may vary depending on the route flown.
The EASy II ATN-B1 CPDLC capability relies on the use of new high-speed data VHF (referred to as VDL Mode 2) replacing the existing VHF#3
